Top Holidays for Fireworks Displays All Over the World

Nothing is more exciting than watching an awesome display of fireworks. The explosive sounds, the sparkling colors, the night sky filled with a spectacular light show.

But where can you go to find amazing fireworks shows all over the world?

Washington D.C. on the 4th of July. It’s hard to beat the fireworks display celebrating the independence of America. The best place to watch this show? From your boat on the Potomac. But it’s still fun if you’re watching at home on your big screen television.

In Tondabayashi, Osaka, Japan over 800,000 spectators attend a festival each year to play games, eat and drink from the many vendor stands, and watch the huge fireworks display. There are over 200 festivals in Japan each August that feature fireworks.

Singapore Fireworks Celebration takes place in August and is part of their National Day festivities. Over 9,000 rounds of fireworks were launched in 2006 and it grows larger each year. There are plans to make the displays a competition.

Cinco De Mayo - May 5th - In America, this day celebrates the contribution of those of Mexican ancestry.

Guy Fawkes night on November 5th in the United Kingdom - This day celebrates the foiling of a plot to kill King James I.

Mardi Gras in New Orleans, Louisiana - When you're talking about festivals you shouldn't forget the party to end all parties. Mardi Gras begins on Epiphany and ends the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. This is also known as Fat Tuesday since it's the day before the start of Lent. Traditionally, people took this time to celebrate and eat extravagantly before they started a fast for the Lenten season. Mardi Gras is celebrated in other cities including Quebec, Rio de Janeiro, Sydney, and Port of Spain. These events usually end with a parade and a large display of fireworks.

Diwali - This celebration takes place between October and mid-November each year. It's part of the Hindu celebration called the Festival of Lights. This event is celebrated in India as well as Singapore, Nepal, Trinidad, and Sri Lanka.

Chinese New Years and Mid-Autumn moon Festival both begin in China but are now celebrated in other countries as well. China is not only the country where fireworks were invented; but it's also still the largest manufacturer and exporter of fireworks.

Halloween - Many countries have celebrations on All Hallows Eve that include fireworks. In the city of Derry in Northern Ireland they have displays that are viewed by over 20,000 people each year. Belfast and Dublin also have large celebrations with fireworks displays. In the Republic of Ireland, however, there are stiff fines and/or jail sentences for the use of fireworks.

There are also fireworks competitions held each year known as pyrotechnical competitions. In Manila, Philippines the annual World Pyro Olympics is held where top fireworks companies compete against each other with huge fireworks displays. Another large competition is the annual Montreal Fireworks Festival in Canada.
